Solutions for Children and Adolescents

Solutions for children and adolescents

Kids and teenagers can struggle with very complex problems. The Center for Behavioral Health Solutions focuses on working with children in a collaborative way to overcome these problems. Treatment at the Center begins with a thorough assessment, since the foundation of effective treatment is accurate assessment. From that assessment, an individualized program of psychotherapy strategies and techniques is designed, drawing on well-established evidence-based practices. Throughout the course of your work at the Center, progress towards your goals is tracked and used to inform your treatment. Although the specific length of treatment is variable, it is designed to be short-term. The goal of psychotherapy at the Center is to prepare kids and teenagers with the skills to manage complex problems on their own.

Solutions for Parents and Caregivers

Solutions for parents and caregivers

We love our kids…but sometimes being around them can be stressful. If you feel like you are at the end of your rope and have run out of ideas, parent consultation may be the right fit for you. The Center can work directly with parents and caregivers of all kinds to support effective solutions for complex behavioral problems. The initial visit starts with an assessment of you and your child, but the remainder of the visits focus primarily on meeting with parents only. This gives you the time and attention to speak freely about parenting, brainstorm strategies to manage behavior problems, and start having more positive time and less stress with your children. If you are thinking how will you possibly fit this into your schedule, the Center also offers video-based remote consultation services so you can keep meeting even when time and travel are tight.

Starting college or beginning your career can be an especially stressful transition. The pressure to perform, live and work independently, and manage your time efficiently can be difficult. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the academic pressures, having uncertainty about how to communicate with roommates, professors, or coaches, or are struggling to find your fit on campus, the Center can help. Learning how to solve complex emotional problems and take care of yourself physically and psychologically is a key focus of our work together. At the Center, you will learn about concrete skills that can help you take an active approach to success.

Solutions for Schools

Solutions for Schools

Educators are dedicated to working for the success of their students. Yet some children need more solutions than any one team can generate. The Center provides consultation and support to individual educators, classroom teams, or even the entire school using solutions based on science. Whether your school needs support for one student or an entire student body, a number of solution-focused in-service trainings are available for customization to meet your needs. The Center can also support speaking engagements and training for parent organizations such as PTOs and SEPACs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Fit is very important and one of the hardest things to determine prior to starting therapy. I would encourage you to review my professional background and the types of services I offer and think about whether the challenges you are facing fit with my background and experience. Personally, I am an energetic and enthusiastic psychologist who gets excited about finding solutions for clients. I tend to take a direct approach to solving problems, work collaboratively, and am always ready to adapt to meet your needs. Ultimately, I would encourage you to just try it out, especially if you have been thinking about getting some support for a while.

Are your services covered by insurance?

In order to assure that you and your child receive the highest quality services while minimizing delays and unnecessary restrictions in treatment, the Center for Behavioral Health Solutions does not contract with any insurance company. However, some insurance companies (i.e., PPO plans) provide partial reimbursement for services rendered by out-of-network providers. Check with your insurance provider to determine whether you have any out-of-network coverage for behavioral health. You will receive detailed receipts through our client portal from the Center that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have coverage.

What are your fees?

Please contact the Center to determine fees, as they may vary for different services. Payment is due at the time of service. At your initial appointment, a credit card will be kept on file and billed upon the completion of each session for your convenience. Invoices are always available online through the secure client portal.

Do you offer services via video conference?

Your time is valuable and the Center makes use of videoconferencing whenever possible and clinically indicated. For clients located in Massachusetts, videoconferencing is available through the secure client portal.

How long does therapy last?

The Center’s approach to therapy is focused on brief, time-limited treatment. Depending on your needs, you can expect therapy to last approximately 20 to 25 sessions. However, our work is not strictly limited. Some clients might need fewer sessions, and others might need substantially more. Many clients find it helpful to think of therapy like a semester of school, learning new material and practicing skills in between classes to increase your knowledge and prepare you for success in the future.
